Goku Voice Actor Masako Nozawa Performs the Kamehameha in Memory of Akira Toriyama

Dragon Ball Daima, the next TV anime series in the Dragon Ball anime franchise, is set to hit screens in Fall 2024 on Fuji TV in Japan. As part of Fuji TV's anime upfront presentation on Monday, March 11, Goku voice actor Masako Nozawa got on stage and, along with the crowd, performed the Turtle School graduate's signature move in memory of Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama who passed away on March 1.

Nozawa’s agency, Aoni Production, posted a video of Nozawa performing the Kamehameha on stage. The tweet quotes Nozawa as saying she will continue to “play the role with all her being.”

On stage, Nozawa commented on the history of the franchise and how she still tries to keep spoilers to herself. “[Dragon Ball] is a work that always makes you excited to see what will happen next. I’m continuously happy to be playing the role, but that’s dangerous for me because I feel like I’m going to blurt out to people what is going to happen in the series, so I try not to talk to anyone about it,” Nozawa said on stage with a smile.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero executive producer and head of the Capsule Corporation Tokyo company Akio Iyoku said of Dragon Ball Daima ”Toriyama-sensei crafted the entire story, the characters and even the mechanical designs in a way never seen before. [Toriyama-sensei] spent a lot of time ensuring the storyline was well thought out and polished. There is a strong sense of adventure and loads of action. [Daima] captures the essence of Dragon Ball’ fun.”

He continued, “Preparation for Daima has taken a long time. I believe our mission is to nurture the world that Toriyama-sensei created, so we want to make it the best work possible and present it to all of you.” Nozawa, who was also on stage with Iyoku, nodded in agreement.

Dragon Ball Daima is set to premiere in Japan in Fall 2024 on Fuji TV on Sundays. No specific premiere date has been announced at the time of reporting.
