HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle Passes 10 Billion Yen Milestone at Japan Box Office

Just before the months clicked over into May, the HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle anime film scored one clutch point in Japanese theaters and passed the “mega-blockbuster” 10 billion yen line, making it the 15th anime film in Japan to ever do so. To celebrate the win, TOHO Animation released a commemorative video thanking fans for their support.

As of April 30, the film’s 75th day in theaters, HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle passed 10 billion yen (US$66.43 million) with over 6.99 million tickets sold. This makes it the 15th highest-grossing anime film of all time in Japan and the 46th overall of all films released in the country.

Toho Animation returns to produce the two Haikyu!! FINAL anime films with the animation continuing to be made by the team at Production I.G, including Susumu Mitsunaka as director and screenwriter, Takahiro Kishida as character designer and Takahiro Chiba as chief animation director. The first film, titled Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle, was released in Japan on February 16, 2024. No date for the second film has been announced as of yet. Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment will release the film internationally starting May 30.
