My Hero Academia Releases Emotional Live-Action Film for 10th Anniversary

On July 7, 2024, the My Hero Academia series by Kohei Horikoshi will celebrate its 10th anniversary. To commemorate the special occasion, the franchise has released a sentimental live-action online video for fans worldwide.

On the official Shonen Jump YouTube channel, a live-action My Hero Academia video titled "Succession" was uploaded for the upcoming 10th anniversary. The 11-minute film chronicles the life of a boy named Haruto as he creates a video blog about the hardships he experiences in various stages of his life. From failing to score a goal in Japanese football to being rejected by a girl he loved, Haruto records himself to help him get through each defeating moment with words of wisdom inspired by All Might.

Shonen Jump's My Hero Academia Live-Action Movie Has Both Real-World and In-Universe References

Among the various setbacks in the video, a surprising reference to the COVID-19 pandemic that had the world self-isolated for three years is included. As the film progresses, Haruto, as a young adult, now has a little brother by his side. When Haruto sets off for college life, his brother runs off to see him one last time before sulking on the street. The film reveals that Haruto was making all those motivational videos years ago for his baby brother to support him when he wasn't there. Before setting off, Haruto bestows his brother with an emotional speech reminiscent of All Might's "You too can be a hero" speech to Izuku "Deku" Midoriya.

The upcoming 10th anniversary of My Hero Academia will be a special one for the superhero-themed series -- not only for the incredible achievement of being in circulation for a decade and reaching 100 million copies worldwide, but also for the fact that 2024 will likely mark the end of the My Hero Academia manga. Every new chapter in the "Final War Arc" by Horikoshi takes My Hero Academia closer and closer to its planned conclusion.
