Spy x Family Collabs With Fast Food Chain on Finger-Lickin' Good Forger Family Meal Sets
Spy x Family devotees in Japan will be able to take advantage of a tasty, downright finger-lickin' good collaboration. Partnering with Kentucky Fried Chicken, fans of the popular anime and manga series will be able to take home all 11 of the Colonel's herbs and spices through Forger family meal sets.
Via Oricon, by ordering one of two take-home meals, fans can get a hold of Spy x Family stickers based on the Forger family. This is part of a deal to promote the KFC app, highlighting just how popular the franchise has become, particularly when it comes to fan-favorite character Anya Forger. KFC is also an especially popular fast food chain in Japan -- the third-biggest market in the world after only China and the United States.
To celebrate the revamp of the KFC ordering app, two new combo meals will be available that celebrate the fandom of Spy x Family. Only available through the new KFC Net Order, these meal options are a two-piece chicken meal or a chicken katsu burger meal. Each comes with a medium-sized drink and a biscuit, though Colonel Sanders' Kentucky recipes aren't the only things that patrons will enjoy. They'll also receive one of four stickers depicting members of the Forger family dining on KFC, with the stickers featuring Anya, Loid, Yor and Bond. Of course, the latter doesn't have a bucket of KFC in front of him, as the deep-fried treats are not exactly the best food for dogs.
The collaboration is currently going on in Japanese KFCs, and it's set to last as long as supplies do. It isn't an international celebration, however, with KFC's home in the United States being one of the many countries going without the option. Likewise, the chicken katsu burger is also a Japanese KFC item that's not available where the restaurant chain began. Kentucky Fried Chicken has become a staple of Japanese fast food culture, with the Colonel's chicken being a popular dining sensation around Christmas. The chain has previously collaborated with other anime and manga franchises such as JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.
Spy x Family Is Now One of the World's Biggest Anime & Manga Franchises
Created by Tatsuya Endo, Spy x Family was initially released as a manga in 2019. Still being published and with 13 collected volumes released to date, it's gone on to receive a popular anime adaptation by Wit Studios and CloverWorks. Although only five years old, the manga has sold over 34 million copies, making it one of the best-selling manga of all time. Particularly popular is the Forger family's telepathic child Anya, who has become one of the most recognizable anime characters across the globe.
In 2023, the story of the anime series continued through the film Spy x Family Code: White. Bringing back the voice cast and producers of the TV series, it's based on an original story that's not derived from the manga. The movie became a smash hit in Japan, making over US$40 million at the box office. It's now finally being released in U.S. theaters for fans to enjoy -- although sadly, they won't be able to celebrate the series while eating a themed KFC meal.
