Dragon Ball SD Artist Redraws Classic Toriyama Cover Featuring Drag Racing Gohan
Dragon Ball SD artist Naho Oishi has contributed a new piece of artwork to Shonen Jump's ongoing Dragon Ball 40th anniversary Super Gallery event.
An anime and manga news hub on X (formerly Twitter) called Shonen Jump News (@WSJ_manga) shared the latest addition to Dragon Ball's Super Gallery with its followers. For her submission, Oishi chose to redraw the original cover of Dragon Ball Volume 18, which depicts young Gohan as he prepares to drive off in a bright yellow race car. While the original only shows Goku, Gohan and Master Roshi, Oishi adds Krillin and Bulma to the mix, creating a charming group shot.
Dragon Ball made its manga debut in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump in November 1984. Four decades later, Shonen Jump's monthly digital manga magazine, V-Jump, continues to chronicle the adventures of Goku and his superpowered allies. Dragon Ball's 40th anniversary Super Gallery project launched in September 2021 with a submission by Masashi Kishimoto, creator of the iconic Naruto franchise. Since then, dozens of other artists throughout Japan have expanded the gallery with revamped versions of classic Dragon Ball manga covers. The artist lineup thus far includes major industry figures like Gege Akutami (Jujutsu Kaisen), Tatsuya Endo (Spy x Family), Tite Kubo (Bleach) and Hirohiko Araki (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure).
