Dragon Ball Super Manga Enters Indefinite Hiatus

The Dragon Ball Super manga is about to go on hiatus for an unspecified period of time.

On X (formerly Twitter), Dragon Ball news hubs @WSJ_Manga and @DbsHype revealed that Dragon Ball Super Chapter 104 will not appear in VJump's upcoming issue, which is scheduled for release next month. It is unclear if this is only a one-month hiatus period or if VJump plans to put the series on hold indefinitely. Additionally, it has yet to be confirmed whether this hiatus is related to the recent death of Dragon Ball creator, Akira Toriyama, who penned the manga's story. Via X, Toyotarou, who illustrates Super, released a brief yet emotional statement conveying how the late artist motivated him throughout his career: "I drew manga because I wanted to be praised by Toriyama-sensei. It was everything to me."

Dragon Ball Super Is Set to End Its Super Hero Arc

Dragon Ball Super is rapidly approaching the exciting climax of its "Super Hero" story arc, which has set the stage for a thrilling battle between Goku and his son Gohan in their respective Perfected Ultra Instinct and Beast Forms. Earlier this week, Toyotarou released the storyboards for Chapter 103, "Inheriting the Future," providing fans with a special sneak peek at the upcoming installment. These pages show Goku entering the match with his usual lighthearted attitude, which quickly changes once Gohan starts revealing his true power. The storyboards will be available on Dragon Ball's official website until March 21, the day after Chapter 103 drops in Japan.

Akira Toriyama's Death Has Impacted Many Fans and Industry Creators

Akira Toriyama's death has robbed Japan of one of its most iconic creators. His first major work was Dr. Slump, a sci-comedy manga revolving around the misadventures of genius scientist Senbei Norimaki and his hyperactive robot child, Arale. In 1984, Dragon Ball launched in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump, introducing the pure-hearted child warrior Goku to readers for the first time. In the subsequent decades, Toriyama released a number of other popular works, including Go Go, Ackman! (1993), Kajika (1998) and Sand Land (2000), the latter of which has an upcoming anime series adaptation. He is also known for his character design work on Square Enix's popular Dragon Quest video game franchise.
